Let’s rewind to 2011. A young Will Hahn clocks in for his first job at Learning Express Toys in Roseville, California. Innocent enough, right? Little did he know, a simple interaction with a modern yo-yo would set him on a course that would lead straight into the chaotic, colorful orbit of MonkeyfingeR Design.
What started as a casual fascination quickly turned into a full blown obsession. Will dove headfirst into the 2010s yo-yo boom, cutting his teeth in the wild west of 1A and 5A trick creation, contest circuits, and club scenes. By 2014, he was already making noise, and Ray came calling. That call? It never dropped. Will’s been part of the MFD family ever since.
And family isn’t just a word here, it’s action.
Will has racked up multiple California State 5A titles, a BAC 5A crown, and has thrown down on the national stage. But it’s not just about wins. He’s a pillar of the community, organizing clubs, school demos, scout workshops, and anywhere someone’s down to learn what a string and some spin can really do.
But wait, Will’s impact doesn’t stop at the string.
By day, he’s a legit science sorcerer with an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials Science. Translation? He knows his stuff. And lucky for us, he brings that same brainpower to MonkeyfingeR product development. When we say “hands on,” we mean it. Will’s the one on the mouse. The guy building the CAD files. The architect behind some of our most iconic shapes.
You’ve probably heard of the Aotus, right? That’s his signature beast, designed to bridge 1A flow and 5A stability like a dream. But it doesn’t stop there. Will also helped bring The Tri-B and Conspiracy to life, those weren’t just team designs; he drew the CAD, he refined every curve and detail with the crew until they were perfect.
