John Datoy? He hits the jackpot on everything.
This guy’s like a Swiss Army knife that throws fire. Whether it’s lighting up the stage with killer combos, cracking jokes in front of a packed house, or mentoring the next gen at his local church, John brings it.
He’s been throwing for over 27 years, racking up a resume that reads like a yo-yo hall of fame scroll: state, regional, national, and even world championship podium finishes. Did we mention he was 11 when he won Worlds? Youngest American champ ever and still holds that title. Now he’s 31. You do the math, he’s got more mileage on a string than most have on their car.
In 2017, something wild happened. He caught wind of the Prime8, 2Evil, and PixelApe, and just like that, boom, Datoy was back. MonkeyfingeR was super lucky to scoop him up, and he went ALL IN. Fast-forward to today and he’s throwing heat with the Prime8 (his go to), Silverback King, Aotus, and Backstage Pass, stacking thousands of views with each jaw dropping video.
But wait—Datoy isn’t just a yo-yo powerhouse. He’s also a stand up comic who went from open mics in Fargo to crushing sets in Nashville, TN. He’s shared stages with the likes of Nate Bargatze, Jared Freid, and Billy Gardell. Meanwhile, he’s still out there competing and cleaning up, Top 10 in 1A at the Midwest, 2nd in the U.S. for Offstring, and 3rd in 3A at nationals. Certified judge? Yup. Event MC? Check. Local legend? Absolutely.
And somehow, in the midst of this controlled chaos, he’s a husband, electrical utilities pro, and youth pastor at Temple Baptist—mentoring what he calls “the most insanely lovable group out there.”
